Exciting plans are on the horizon for Cardiff! A former Magnet Trade warehouse in Splott could soon be transformed into new council homes, addressing the city’s pressing housing needs. Cardiff Community Housing Association (CCHA) has applied for planning permission to demolish the old warehouse on East Tyndall Street, making way for over 60 much-needed council homes.

CCHA’s chief executive, Brian Pickett, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting its potential to deliver vital affordable housing in the area. He noted, “This site offers a fantastic opportunity for investment in Splott and will help provide homes for over 60 families amidst Cardiff’s housing crisis.”

If given the green light, the proposed development would feature 44 one-bedroom flats, 13 two-bedroom flats, and four three-bedroom houses, catering to families of various sizes. While parking will be limited, the site promises sustainable options with bike storage and excellent access to public transport.

The area’s rich industrial history, with landmarks like The Maltings building nearby, has inspired a thoughtful design approach meant to complement the surrounding architecture.
Currently, Cardiff Council is reviewing the initial application to demolish the warehouse, with the public consultation period closing on 30th September. A full planning application for the housing scheme is forthcoming.
Stay tuned for updates as Cardiff moves towards a future with more affordable homes! 🏠✨
