Exciting times ahead for Swansea! With millions being poured into the transformation of Castle Square and the iconic Castle Cinema, there’s new hope for our beloved Swansea Castle. This medieval gem, often overlooked amidst the bustling cityscape, might finally get the spotlight it deserves! Dating back to the late 13th century, it has a rich history waiting to be explored.

Cllr David Hopkins has shared that plans are in the works to transform the castle into a heritage go-to spot, working closely with Cadw, the heritage body that owns it. While nothing’s set in stone yet, the potential is enormous, and they’re exploring various funding options.

Why now? Well, with Castle Square getting a green makeover and EasyLiving Ltd teaming up with housing association Beacon Cymru to turn the historic Castle Cinema into vibrant flats and commercial space, the area will be buzzing with activity. Perfect timing to give the sturdy old castle a bit of TLC, right?
Back in its heyday, the castle was a strategic fortress with a much larger presence. It even served as a glassworks, town hall, and prison over the years. Amazing, isn’t it? Once hugging the River Tawe, this castle has seen history’s tides turn right on its doorstep.
Locals are calling for action to spruce up the castle, and with these new developments, it seems their voices are finally being heard.
Imagine strolling through a greener Castle Square, with revamped spots and a castle that tells tales of times long past. With a cityscape that blends the new with the old, we’re excited to see what the next chapter holds for Swansea’s historic heart!
