Heartbreaking news as Gareth Idris Johnson, a devoted dad and beloved Welshman, passed away at just 41 after a tragic series of events at University Hospital of Wales. Following an operation for a pulmonary embolism, Gareth was moved from the critical care unit due to building maintenance, leading to less-than-ideal care during his recovery. Sadly, complications arose, and he died on October 16th.

His grieving wife, Chelsea, remembers him as “a truly incredible man” whose bright spirit touched everyone around him. “The world will forever be a darker place without him,” she shared.
Coroner Kerrie Burge criticised the hospital’s infrastructure and emphasised the urgent need for improvements to prevent future tragedies. The hospital, already under scrutiny due to a slew of controversies, faces pressure to enhance its facilities and care standards.

Gareth’s death sheds light on dire conditions that need addressing. Our thoughts are with Chelsea, their three young children, and all Gareth’s loved ones during this difficult time. 💔
