“Bright orange urine raises concerns: Distinct color sparks worry in the observer”

šŸŽ—ļø Meet Carys, a 13-year-old from Newport whose journey through life’s toughest battles is nothing short of inspiring. It all started when, at just 10 years old, Carys noticed some unusual changes in her body. Her energy levels plummeted, her appetite vanished, and her stomach began to swell. But it was a urine test revealing Fanta-orange wee that hinted something wasn’t right.

After the test, doctors broke the news: Carys had a massive germ cell tumour on her ovary, causing her organs to shift. It was the shock of a lifetime—a diagnosis no child should face. But Carys is a warrior. She bravely endured four rounds of chemotherapy and a five-hour operation in May 2023, removing the tumour and an ovary. Despite missing most of Year 6, Carys rang the bell to celebrate her recovery on 1st September 2023, just in time to start high school.

But her fight wasn’t over. In March 2025, the unthinkable happened—a relapse. This time it was sarcoma in her pelvis and abdomen. Stepping back into battle mode, she underwent six more rounds of chemo and another major surgery in August. Doctors are considering a full hysterectomy now, but Carys’ spirit is unshakeable.

Reflecting on the past two and a half years, Carys shares, “I’ve missed out on so much, but I’ve learned just how strong I am. My scars tell my story, and I’m proud of them.” This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Carys wants others to know the strength and bravery hidden within every young fighter.

Carys hopes to return to school after Christmas, eager to resume life as a “normal teenager.” Grateful for the support from Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital and a community of fellow fighters, she and her family have never been alone. 🌈

To every child in their battle, Carys sends love: “You are strong, you are brave, and you should be proud!” Let’s keep Carys and all young warriors in our hearts. šŸ’ŖāœØ #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #StayStrongCarys #BraveHearts
