Woman Secures Youth Club Position Following Sexual Assault on Minor

In a shocking turn of events, Sarah Vigus was able to work at a youth club while facing allegations of a serious crime. Vigus, also known as Sarah Parkinson, managed to join the YMCA Porthcawl’s after-school club despite being under investigation for raping a 17-year-old girl, a crime for which she has now been found guilty.

The scandal came to light after she was sentenced to eight years and three months behind bars. The police conducted a comprehensive DBS check when she applied for the job in May 2023, which reportedly included details of her arrest and the nature of the alleged offences. However, the YMCA claims they were unaware of the investigation until her conviction.

Parents of children at the club have been left distraught, expressing disbelief and anger that such an oversight was possible. One mother said, “I feel absolutely sickened this was allowed to happen.”

The victim’s harrowing testimony revealed how she was attacked after a night out, left feeling vulnerable and struggling with the aftermath of the crime. Despite the disturbing nature of the offences, the YMCA maintains they had no knowledge until it was too late and have since taken immediate action.

Both Vigus and her accomplice, Robert Ellis-Evans, were sentenced for their crimes, which included additional charges against Vigus. They will serve two-thirds of their sentences before being eligible for release, and both face lifetime sex offender notification requirements.
