Meet Leon Baines, the carpenter with a heart as big as his appetite for change! He’s spent over £10,000 out of his own pocket to host free burger giveaways in Pembrokeshire. But these aren’t just any burgers—they’re delicious plant-based creations bought from Sainsbury’s and Tesco.
Leon’s on a mission to show that plant-based food isn’t just good for you, it tastes amazing too. “It’s a gateway into trying something plant-based,” Leon says. And it’s working—both kids and adults keep coming back for more, loving every bite without even realising they’re meat-free!
The Freeburger pop-up bar in Kilgetty is the place to be, offering free burgers, drinks, and even an arcade machine. No need to RSVP—just rock up and enjoy! Leon’s already given away more than 1,200 burgers, all in the name of spreading awareness about plant-based diets and animal welfare.
And while it’s a passion project that’s cost him a small fortune, Leon’s all about giving back. He’s set it up all by himself, jumping through hoops to ensure everything’s shipshape and safe. Although Leon happily covers the costs, he welcomes donations to keep the burgers rolling.
