Jihad Al-Shamie, who was out on bail for an alleged offence, was shot dead by police as he attempted to target the synagogue. In a heroic act, Adrian Daulby and local worshipper Melvin Cravitz lost their lives trying to prevent the attack.

Counter Terrorism Policing North West (CTPNW) is leading the investigation, having been granted extra time to question the suspects. Arrests include two men in their 30s, a woman aged 61, and another woman, 46, from various parts of Manchester. While two others have been released, the investigation is intensifying with “significant resources” dedicated to uncovering the full scope of this incident.

Community leaders, including Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch and Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham, have visited the scene, urging for increased security for Jewish communities in the UK. Meanwhile, the incident is under scrutiny by the police watchdog to assess the use of lethal force during the response.

As solidarity pours in, a fundraising page for the Community Security Trust (CST) has already raised over ÂŁ16,000. During Manchester United’s match, a minute’s silence was observed as a tribute to the victims.

Police have assured an increased presence to reassure communities while Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has called for respect in upcoming protests.
