A fierce snowstorm has left over 200 hikers trapped on the Tibetan slopes of Mount Everest. The unseasonable blizzard hit the Karma valley over the weekend, catching many by surprise during what is usually a busy October trekking season. 🌬️❄️

Chinese state media reports that of the initial 1,000 stuck, 350 hikers have been safely evacuated to nearby Qudang township. However, more than 200 still await rescue from this perilous situation. The storm has dumped unprecedented levels of snow and rain in the region, making access extremely challenging. Rescuers have been working tirelessly, battling the elements and using every resource available to clear snow-blocked paths in order to reach those in need. ⛄🛠️

The extreme weather conditions have also led to chaos in neighbouring Nepal, with landslides and floods causing devastating impacts, claiming at least 47 lives since Friday. The harsh weather at such high altitudes, over 4,900m above sea level, poses serious hypothermia risks to those caught in the storm, making swift rescue efforts even more critical. 🏔️💧

October usually attracts hikers to Everest due to milder temperatures and clear skies, but this year, the unexpected snowstorm has turned the adventure into a dangerous ordeal. With ticket sales and entrance to the Everest Scenic Area suspended since Saturday, the focus is now on safely bringing everyone down the mountain. 🏞️🚫

Despite the chaos, all trekkers are reported to have been accounted for, with groups set to descend gradually once conditions allow. Let’s hope everyone gets to safety soon. Stay tuned and keep these adventurers in your thoughts! 🙏❤️
