Crazy baggage fees! When Andy Donovan switched his flight to avoid a typhoon, he didn’t expect his second suitcase to cost more than the flight itself! The 23-year-old from Exeter decided to change his Cathay Pacific ticket to a Qatar Airways flight to Melbourne, side-stepping a super typhoon in Hong Kong. But here’s the kicker: his £312 flight suddenly became a lot more expensive when he was hit with a £1,103.72 charge for an extra 25kg bag at the airport.

Apparently, the airline charges per kilo over the limit, and Andy needed his cricket gear for his six-month stay in Australia. Despite trying to sort it online, the website kept letting him down. Andy was left with no option but to cough up at the airport. Talk about sticker shock! His dad, a retired pilot, was just as floored by the unexpected charge, describing it as “extortion.”

Andy’s sister had taken a similar flight with no issues, leaving him to wonder why he got caught out. The family is still waiting for a response from the airline, and they’re not holding back on voicing their frustration. Have you ever been stung by unexpected travel charges?
