ππ‘ Flashing those headlights might seem like a friendly gesture, but did you know it could land you a hefty fine? The Highway Code specifies exactly when you should use your headlights – get it wrong, and you might be out of pocket!

According to the Code, you should only flash your headlights to let others know you’re there. Flashing them for any other reason, like signalling fellow drivers about speed cameras, could see you hit with a fine of up to Β£1,000! ππΈ Itβs all down to obstructing police duties under the Police Act 1997.

While you might want to help others avoid a ticket, it could lead to dangerous behaviour on the roads. Speed limits are there to keep everyone safe. π
Remember, headlights have plenty of other rules too. Ensure all your sidelights and rear registration plate lights are on from sunset to sunrise and use headlights when visibility is low. If you don’t, you’re looking at fines and even penalty points on your licence. β οΈπ
And don’t forget – avoid dazzling other road users, including pedestrians and cyclists. That’s why you shouldn’t use your lights inappropriately in traffic or when visibility is clear. Keep those dipped headlights on in built-up areas and during dank weather! π§οΈ
Ensure you’re following the Highway Code, stay safe on the roads, and avoid those fines! πβ¨
Stay bright out there! π‘π
