๐ Big Changes Ahead for Ysgol Golwg Pen y Fan! ๐

Just a year after its grand opening, Ysgol Golwg Pen y Fan in Powys faces some major decisions. The campus, which joined three schools into one under a single governing body, is grappling with drastically falling pupil numbers. As it stands, the Cradoc campus student count has dropped from 71 to just 39 within a year, and projections show it might dwindle to 32 by next September!

Why the potential closure? This is part of Powys County Council’s broader strategy to streamline education. Consolidating the sites could simplify leadership, reduce travel, save costs, and provide more consistent educational opportunities for all learners.
Cllr James Gibson-Watt, who’s a key player in shaping the future of learning in Powys, highlights the importance of addressing the countyโs high number of small schools and surplus places. With Cradoc currently holding a whopping 75% surplus capacity, it faces hurdles in providing the same level of services as the other sites.
The proposed changes could bolster collaboration among staff and pupils, foster social development, and make it easier to run clubs and sports teams. Ultimately, the aim is to offer students the best possible start!
Rest assured, plans for the new school building for Ysgol Golwg Pen y Fan are still on track, and this proposal could bring some certainty before the big move. ๐ ๐ซ
