Exciting news for Bridgend! 🎉 Construction has kicked off on 35 brand-new affordable homes in Tondu, transforming the old Glan Yr Afon Care Home site into a vibrant community. Built by Valleys to Coast and backed by funds from Bridgend County Borough Council and the Welsh Government, this £8.2m project marks a significant step in providing much-needed housing.

The development will feature a mix of 24 stylish one-bedroom flats and 11 spacious two-to-four-bedroom houses, all available for social rent. With an emphasis on sustainability, each home will boast high energy performance and low carbon emissions, making them not just affordable but environmentally friendly too. 🌍
Particularly exciting is the focus on accessibility—ground-floor flats will come with level-access bathrooms to cater to residents with limited mobility. This is just part of Valleys to Coast’s ambitious strategy to increase high-quality, affordable housing options around Bridgend.

James Griffiths from Valleys to Coast highlighted the importance of providing safe, warm, and dry homes, saying they are essential for residents’ wellbeing and peace of mind. With more than 3,000 households on Bridgend’s housing register, this project is a step toward meeting the surging demand for accommodation.
The Tondu housing development is set to be completed by August 2026, offering hope and opportunity for future residents to build stable, secure lives.🏡 Keep an eye out as this exciting development takes shape!
