Shocking incident in Glynneath: A dad was attacked by a random passer-by in his own garden while his children watched in horror. It all started when the father, keeping an eye on his kids playing outside, noticed two men on the road. One of them, Robin Griffiths, aged 34, mistook the dad’s gestures as mocking and launched a brutal assault.

Grabbing a chance to approach, Griffiths struck the father with repeated punches, causing severe facial injuries. To make matters worse, the chaos unfolded right in front of the victim’s young children and another child who rushed out from inside the house to defend their dad. Adding to the shock, Griffiths then retaliated against this brave young one with a forceful slap, before taunting them with: “Now you know who I am”.
The police arrested Griffiths shortly after the attack. Despite initially claiming self-defence, Griffiths pled guilty to grievous bodily harm and assault by beating. During the court hearing, his defence cited ADHD, PTSD, and substance abuse as factors behind his actions, expressing his “genuine remorse”.

The judge sentenced Griffiths to 20 months behind bars and handed him a five-year restraining order from the victim. The traumatising incident left a lasting impact on the family, with the children’s cries still lingering in the neighbourhood’s memory.

Acts of random violence like this remind us of the unpredictable nature of human behaviour. Stay safe and look out for each other, everyone.
