Some baby names that once ruled our TV screens are quickly fading away in the UK! According to a recent analysis by baby brand Nuby, names like Sheldon from Big Bang Theory and Monica from Friends are at risk of disappearing entirely from nurseries next year. 😱
Sheldon is leading the list, with only three babies named Sheldon last year—a whopping 94% drop from its peak in 1996. Giles isn’t faring much better, also seeing dramatic declines since 1997. And it looks like our favourite Friends aren’t immune either: Monica and Ross are almost out the door, with zero new Rosses recorded in 2024!
Other names like Derek, Craig, and Karen are joining the endangered list. Karen, which had only four registrations in 2024, has plummeted 95% from its peak! 📉
Here’s the top of the endangered baby name list:
1. Sheldon – 3 registrations, 94% drop
2. Giles – 3 registrations, 93% drop
3. Karen – 4 registrations, 95% drop
While these names teeter on the brink, Olivia and Muhammad continue to top the charts in England and Wales. Even names like Frederick, Zachary, Evelyn, and Matilda are making a strong comeback, showing that classic names are here to stay.
