Cabinet members will soon decide whether to move forward with a formal host city agreement. If given the nod, Cardiff’s final bid will be submitted in November. While the quests to be a host city are competitive, it’s an incredible opportunity for Cardiff to potentially be part of a tournament that’s catching the world by storm.
The United Kingdom, including England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, has collectively expressed interest in hosting the tournament. Historically, attendance has skyrocketed—from around 1.25 million participants in the ’90s to over 2 million in recent years. Projections for upcoming tournaments are expected to reach 3 million and beyond! 📈
Hosting could mean major economic gains, with billions anticipated in revenue. The costs, however, would be shared between the UK Government and host cities. Cardiff Council is already discussing support with the Welsh Government to cover its share.
