A devastating fire swept through Gwastad Hall, a historic building once valued at £650,000, leaving the Cefn-y-bedd community in Flintshire in shock. Early Monday morning, locals awoke to see flames lighting up the wooded hillside as six fire crews tackled the blaze. Sadly, the former care home, which had a rich history dating back to the Victorian era, now stands in ruins.

The property, partially Grade II-listed, had served various roles over the years—from a spa resort and hotel to a council children’s home, and finally, a nursing home. In 2023, it closed its doors due to tragedy and administration issues, but it remained a cherished landmark for the community.

Police and fire service investigators are currently examining the cause of the massive blaze. An NWFRS spokesperson confirmed the situation is “under joint investigation with North Wales Police,” who are diligently looking into the circumstances.
For many, Gwastad Hall was more than just a building; it was a piece of local history. Residents mourn the loss, recalling its time as a pivotal community centre and home. A local resident poignantly noted online, “Such a beautiful building and a lovely home for many… So many memories.”
Adding to the curiosity, last month, an urban explorer captured eerie photos of the vacant property, showcasing rooms that remained almost untouched since its closure. Now, all that remains are memories and the stories tied to its storied past.
