🏃♀️🚴♂️ Big sporting day in Cardiff coming up! 🚴♂️🏃♀️

Hold onto your hats, Cardiff! This Sunday, 7th September, the city will be buzzing with excitement as two major sporting events take over. The Brecon Carreg Cardiff 10K and the grand finale of the Tour of Britain are in town, promising a whirlwind of energy and action! 🎉

Thousands of runners will hit the streets for the Cardiff 10K, winding their way through iconic landmarks on a stunning historical route through the city. Meanwhile, cycling enthusiasts get ready—the Tour of Britain wraps up its thrilling journey right here in our capital.

But with great excitement comes some logistical hiccups. Transport for Wales is giving a heads up that the trains are going to be packed, and engineering works mean a number of routes will see buses replacing trains. Expect buses between Cardiff Central and places like Caerphilly, Ystrad Mynach, Bargoed, and Rhymney. Plus, if you’re heading to Penarth, Barry Island, or Bridgend before 12:30 pm, grab a bus as they’re replacing trains too.
⚠️ Key rail disruptions include:
– Buses replacing trains on several central routes
– No trains from Radyr to Cardiff Central via the City Line (Cardiff Bus routes 61, 62, and 63 will accept rail tickets)
– Bus replacements between Carmarthen and Swansea, and a closed Newport to Hereford line for the day
The good news? Extra trains on the Valleys and Newport routes will help you get to the action. 🚌🚆
Road closures will be in effect as cycling buffs watch the pros zoom past during the Tour of Britain. These closures are set up to reduce disruption, blocking roads just 30-40 minutes as cyclists speed by.
Whether you’re running, cycling, or cheering from the sidelines, make sure to plan your journey ahead, pack light, and embrace the sporting spirit that’s set to electrify Cardiff. Let’s make it a day to remember! 💪🎽🥇
