Exciting update on a beloved Swansea woodland path! 🌳 Plans to Tarmac the bridleway in Clyne Valley Country Park have been scrapped! After listening to feedback from the community, the council has decided to opt for a more nature-friendly approach. 🐦

Originally, the council had aimed to make the Old Carriage Drive path more accessible for all, including cyclists and those with pushchairs or wheelchairs, using Welsh Government Active Travel funds. However, the move to Tarmac didn’t sit well with residents who feared it would spoil the historic charm of the area. 🚴♀️

After much discussion, the new plan focuses on restoring the path, preserving its unique character, while making sure it’s still accessible for everyone. Improved surfacing and drainage are in the works, alongside clearing drainage ditches and enhancing connections to nearby routes. A win-win for those seeking both accessibility and nature! 🌿

Cllr Rob Stewart shared this positive shift at a recent cabinet meeting, expressing gratitude for the valuable community feedback. Meanwhile, Cllr Louise Gibbard and other local representatives were instrumental in advocating for reconsiderations that led to this thoughtful redesign.
Campaigners like Save the Old Carriage Drive are thrilled with this decision, praising the council’s willingness to listen and adapt. They’ve also called for further consultation once new plans are on the table.
Stay tuned for more updates as this much-loved path gets the makeover it deserves! 🏞️
