In a whirlwind of dramatic searches and unexpected turns, a man with a distinctive bushy white beard named Leslie was safely found after a 24-hour search. The search involved coastguard helicopters as well as public involvement after North Wales Police issued an appeal.
Leslie, in his 50s, was reported missing from the Pwllheli area, sparking a widespread search along the Llŷn Peninsula coastline. Amidst public concern, one savvy staff member at Tafarn y Porth Wetherspoons in Caernarfon had the keen eye to spot Leslie in the establishment.
Mark Bohana, a staff member, noticed a man who looked like the appeal photo and, after some hesitation, approached him. It turned out Leslie was out simply for a pint, seemingly unfazed by the search efforts that had everyone else on their toes. Within just 10-15 minutes of the discovery, police arrived, finding Leslie safe and sound.
In an amusing twist, as he exited through the beer garden, the only chase was police ensuring he was well before moving on. The coastguard helicopter, having spent significant time sweeping the coast, stood down at Caernarfon Airport soon after news of Leslie’s location broke.
Despite the serious nature of the situation, the community has found some light-hearted relief, with locals playfully remarking on how men with big white beards are a rare sight this festive season. The relief is palpable as everyone’s glad he’s safe and well!
