๐งโ๏ธ Snowy Mayhem on the A55! ๐โ๏ธ

The A55 near Bangor turned into a frosty obstacle course as sudden snow and hail whipped through, causing chaos for drivers and turning the busy route into an ice rink. The wintery blast forced the A55 to temporarily shut down in both directions, sparking hefty traffic jams and driver frustrations.

Local motorists took to social media to express their icy ire, questioning whether the roads had been properly gritted. Giles Pepperell from the Alliance of British Drivers raised concerns, stating there were numerous social media snaps showing the A55 in a slippery state, despite the weather warnings.
Traffic Wales responded, saying “precautionary gritting” did occur on January 1st and into the early hours of January 2nd. They highlighted that while gritting helps, it can’t always guarantee ice-free journeys, especially when weather conditions shift so quickly. โ๏ธ
They explained that prolonged low temps, new snowfall, and constant traffic can diminish gritting effectiveness. Although they work according to forecasts and plans, sometimes Mother Nature has other ideas!
While frustrations mounted, Traffic Wales assured that all feedback, including images and reports from drivers, is key to improving their winter readiness. Stay safe, everyone, and remember: drive carefully in these chilly conditions! ๐๐จ
