A day out in Caerphilly turned into a frightening experience for one family when a five-year-old girl was served ice cream containing a sharp piece of plastic at a local Wetherspoon pub. Leah Marchant was enjoying lunch with her daughter Frankie at the Malcolm Uphill branch when the incident occurred. According to Leah, Frankie almost swallowed a shard of plastic over an inch long, which they suspect came from an ice cream tub.

Leah recounted the alarming moment when she saw her daughter suddenly arch forward and put her hand in her mouth, narrowly avoiding swallowing the dangerous fragment. “She very nearly swallowed it, she was petrified,” Leah said, describing the piece as an inch and a half long with enough thickness to cause serious harm.

Despite the scare, Leah was shocked by the pub’s lack of response. She reported the incident to a staff member, expecting at least an apology, but received no reassurance or acknowledgment. “Accidents happen, but the total disregard of the situation and no apology was shocking,” Leah noted. The family eventually left the pub feeling flabbergasted and unheard.
After contacting the pub again from home, Leah awaits a response. A Wetherspoon spokesperson acknowledged the complaint, stating, “We are investigating the matter.” The company mentioned an attempt to address the issue, but the family left before the manager could speak with them. Wetherspoon assured that they are now in touch with the family to resolve the issue.
It’s a reminder to stay vigilant even during what should be a fun day out. Hopefully, this matter will be resolved, ensuring stricter safety measures moving forward. Let’s hope for a swift and satisfactory resolution for Leah and little Frankie.
