Meet Friedel de Beer, a true inspiration! 🌟 At 51, she thought she was just battling a cold, but it turned out to be much more serious. After what she believed was a simple illness, Friedel ended up in hospital with a severe Strep A infection, which developed into necrotising fasciitis, also known as the ‘flesh-eating disease’. This life-threatening condition led to her undergoing both below-the-knee and above-the-knee amputations.

Despite facing such daunting challenges, Friedel’s spirit remains unbroken. Now living in the stunning French Alps, she’s embraced life with a prosthetic leg, mastering swimming and kayaking, and cherishing moments with her 11-year-old son, JJ. 🏊♀️🚣♀️

Friedel says the experience has shifted her perspective, making her value every opportunity to live life to the fullest. While recovery hasn’t been easy, her resilience is a testament to her strength. She openly shares her journey, showing off her prosthetic and encouraging others to ask questions, especially children, for whom she has a soft spot.
Currently, Friedel is on a mission to get back to her active lifestyle and is raising funds for a prosthetic sports knee to help her pursue more outdoor activities, like cycling and skiing. Her determination serves as a powerful reminder of the human spirit’s ability to adapt and thrive, even in the face of adversity.
