A mum faced a terrifying moment when her 16-month-old son, Brody, started choking on a sweet from Aldi. He turned blue and stopped breathing for two minutes, leaving his mum, Bethany Holden, and her partner, Stefan, in a desperate struggle to save him. The family had to run next door to a medic neighbour, who managed to dislodge the sweet with a few decisive back blows. Thankfully, Brody let out a relieved cry and was given the all-clear at the hospital.

Bethany is speaking out, urging for changes after discovering that the packaging of the Dino Gems sweets lacks any age restriction guidance. She believes it should clearly state ‘suitable for ages three and up’ as the sweets are not safe for very young children who might struggle to chew them properly. Aldi has since reached out following her ordeal, expressing their sympathy and willingness to reconsider the packaging guidance.

Bethany says, “The whole experience was so frightening. In those two minutes, I feared I might lose him. Now, I just want to make sure it doesn’t happen to another child.” Let’s hope her call for clearer packaging helps to prevent future incidents. Hug your little ones a bit tighter tonight! 💙
