🚗 **Are Ghost Plates Making Speed Cameras Useless?** 🚗

There’s a new trick some rogue drivers are using – a simple £10 number plate modification that supposedly makes their cars invisible to speed cameras. 😮 An All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Transport Safety has spotlighted this issue, nicknaming it the ‘number plate wild west’. ⚠️
Sarah Coombes, Labour MP for West Bromwich, is calling for stronger enforcement from the DVLA. With over 34,000 suppliers in the UK, the MP says the current checks, which are less than 8 a day, aren’t enough. She’s urging for more thorough audits, heightened background checks on suppliers, and increased fees for supplier registration. 👀

Apparently, these so-called “ghost plates” use a bit of plastic film or raised letters that make them unreadable to police cameras, although they appear normal to the human eye. While they’re a hit with those dodging fines, drivers could still face hefty penalties up to £1,000 if caught. 💸

In 2025 alone, the DVLA sent over a thousand warning letters to plate suppliers, a notable increase from previous years. They’ve also successfully prosecuted 14 sellers. The Department for Transport insists they’re working with police and Trading Standards to get tougher on this issue. 🤝
There’s even a proposal for a complete revamp of the number plate system. Ideas on the table include a national design for registration plates and a ban on tricky 3D and 4D lettering. 📃
With rogue drivers causing this chaos, it’s clear something needs to be done. Do you think this is enough to crack down on those sneaky plates? Let us know in the comments! 🗨️ #GhostPlates #DVLA #RoadSafety #NumberPlateDrama
