Big news for the Scarlets! Nigel Davies makes a surprise return to the club, stepping in as interim director of rugby. While it wasn’t an easy decision for head coach Dwayne Peel, Nigel assures fans that their relationship is strong and this change will ultimately benefit the team.
Nigel now holds full responsibility for performance, results, and team selection. Even though Dwayne might have been startled seeing Nigel back, he’s all in for the new setup. Nigel praised, “Dwayne has been brilliant. He’s a passionate Scarlet and now he can truly focus on what he’s great at – coaching!”
Before embracing the role, Nigel reached out to Dwayne. “I wanted him on board for anything I’d be involved in,” Nigel explained. Together, they’re ready to lift the club at this crucial time for Welsh rugby.
The board felt a fresh impulse was needed, and Nigel, deeply passionate about the Scarlets, didn’t hesitate. He’s spent years in rugby and aims to leave the team thriving, just as he did in previous tenures. The clarity in their roles is key – Nigel is accountable for performance and selection, while Dwayne spearheads the coaching group on the pitch.
Nigel is excited to work with the team of talented coaches, who can now channel their energy purely into coaching. And though he’s not committing beyond this season just yet, Nigel isn’t ruling anything out: “Never say never!”
