🎺 Eric Davies, the incredible 95-year-old trumpeter, has been making music magic in the same brass band for an astounding 87 years! Joining the band at just eight to follow in the footsteps of his bandmaster dad, Eric’s love for playing has never waned.
From carolling in short trousers in 1938 outside a chemist shop to performing at the Royal Albert Hall, Eric’s journey is a remarkable symphony of dedication and passion. He says his secret to longevity isn’t just the fresh air during his performances but also a lifelong choice to abstain from alcohol and smoking—values instilled by his Salvation Army upbringing.
Eric fondly recalls the thrilling chill of playing carols in Abergavenny, a tradition that’s warmed his heart and those around him for decades. “Silent Night” remains a timeless favourite for this musical maestro who’s still spreading festive joy throughout the town each Christmas.
Celebrated for his lifelong commitment to community and music, Eric was honoured in 2024 during the 140th anniversary of The Salvation Army in Abergavenny. His family’s musical legacy, with half the band once being Davies family members, lives on through every note he plays.
