Last Saturday, passengers were thrust into chaos when a man armed with a knife attacked on a crowded train. Stephen Crean, 61, was one of the brave souls who fought back using just his fists to defend himself and others. After witnessing a young woman scream about the attacker, Stephen didn’t hesitate to step up, even though it meant suffering multiple injuries himself. He recalled the terrifying moment, saying, “He asked me, ‘Do you want to die?’ and then I felt the knife in my arm.”
Stephen’s courage stood out amidst the panic as he confronted the attacker, sustaining injuries to his fingers, head, and back. He shared, “I’m going to need plastic surgery. One finger doesn’t look clever.”
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood praised the breathtaking bravery of the passengers and train staff who risked their lives. Particularly striking was the courage of one staff member who is now hailed as a hero for confronting the knifeman, though he’s in a critical condition.
On the legal side, Anthony Williams, 32, faced charges of ten counts of attempted murder and more. Confirmed at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court, he’s being held as a significant threat to public safety.
