ππ Stay Safe This Christmas! ππ

As the festive season approaches, safety comes first for our little ones! Pediatrician Dr Laura Steelman shares vital tips to keep kids safe from the “nightmare toys” of the season.

𧲠Beware of magnets! These seemingly harmless fidget toys can cause serious harm if swallowed. Dr Steelman highlights the dangers: swallowed magnets can attract inside the digestive tract, leading to severe complications. Talk about a parent’s worst nightmare!
π Caution with button batteries – those shiny, innocent-looking batteries in toys and remote controls pose a significant risk. If ingested, they react with moisture and cause dangerous chemical burns. Keep them out of reach!
πΆ At parties, stay alert! Designate an adult to watch over the little ones, especially when everyone else is caught up in the festivities. A festive hat could make them easy to spot!
π Gift smart: Toys with small parts can be more hazardous than they seem. Avoid anything small enough to pass through a toilet paper roll β it might be a choking hazard.
π Holiday menus can be risky too. Avoid small, hard, or sticky foods like whole grapes and nuts.
π₯ Party drinks? Clear those abandoned glasses! Even a little alcohol can be toxic to children.
πΏ Decorations matter: While mistletoe and holly are pretty, theyβre also poisonous if eaten. Keep them out of reach of curious little hands.
β Dr Steelman reassures us that safety doesnβt have to steal the seasonal joy. With some foresight, you can create a magical, and most importantly, safe festive atmosphere for everyone.
