🔍 **Be Aware: Allergen Alert at Welsh Supermarket!**

Heads up, folks! A leading Welsh supermarket has been slapped with a hefty £36,000 fine after failing to list allergens properly on several products, posing a potentially deadly risk to customers with allergies. 🚨
Pembrokeshire Council’s vigilant food safety team discovered three mislabelled products during routine checks at CK’s Supermarket in Narberth. Despite previous warnings, the issue persisted, putting customers at serious risk. With 6% of UK adults affected by food allergies, proper labelling isn’t just good practice—it’s a lifeline!

Here’s what went wrong:
– **Chia Bread** 🥖 had sesame seeds as a topping, but sesame only popped up under ‘Allergen Advice’, not in the main list.
– **Small Multiseed Bread** 🌾 similarly hid the presence of sesame, leaving buyers in the dark.
– **Smokey BBQ Beef Grillsticks** 🍢 contained sodium metabisulphite in the seasoning, a fact missing from the main list but tucked away in the ‘may contain traces of…’ section.
Cllr Jacob Williams stressed that food allergen labelling is non-negotiable, as even trace amounts can be deadly for those with serious allergies. It’s shocking that these lapses were linked to CK’s head office responsible for multiple store labels.
CKs Supermarket pleaded guilty and was fined £12,000 per mislabelled item, plus a £2,000 victim surcharge.
Let’s stay safe and informed out there! And remember—always check those labels. 🃏
