π³ Exciting New Chapter for Gower’s Treasured Landscape! πΏ

Good news for nature lovers! The beautiful Gower landscape is set for a glorious transformation after facing destruction. The Gower Society has stepped in to transform a 43-acre site that had suffered illegal tree felling. Now, this cherished area is on its way to becoming a vibrant nature reserve, managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales.

Plans are underway to bring back the area’s natural beauty. Expect the return of grasslands, the planting of oak, hazel, rowan, and hawthorn trees, as well as newly created ponds. Plus, cattle will graze to create thriving habitats for local wildlife.
This ambitious project follows aerial images revealing the devastated state left by the activities of the former landowner, who was convicted for his actions. But now, thanks to a dedicated 25-year lease agreement, this site has a chance to flourish.
Glyn Morgan from the Gower Society highlighted the importance of investing in nature recovery, noting the project’s aim to “repair, replace, and restock.” He and others in the society have worked tirelessly to bring attention to such environmental losses.
The Wildlife Trust’s team is eager to get started, with volunteers already on site. Reserve manager Paul Thornton has exciting plans for planting over the winter and envisions a biodiverse haven by the end of the 25-year lease.
Though public access will be limited, there are opportunities to get involved through volunteering, with the promise of open days ahead. Connect with nature, and watch Gower’s landscape bloom again!
