Co-op’s attempt to advertise a price-match scheme with Aldi has hit a snag! 🛒 The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled the Co-op website’s claims were misleading. The issue? Co-op compared products that weren’t truly like-for-like. 🥖🍝

Among the eyebrow-raisers were Co-op’s Linguini Pasta being matched with Aldi’s Spaghetti and Co-op’s flavoured water up against Aldi’s different fruit flavour. In some cases, nearly identical products were available at Aldi, but Co-op chose not to use these for comparison. This led the ASA to question the clarity and transparency of Co-op’s advertising approach. 🤨

Co-op has defended its position, claiming that the selection was clear on its website and has now adjusted its Terms & Conditions. But shopper beware! Experts, like Reena Sewraz from Which?, advise not to take price-match claims at face value. Just because it sounds like a win doesn’t mean you’re getting a like-for-like deal. 🛍️

The moral of the story? Always double-check those deals and make sure you’re really getting the best bang for your buck. 💸
