Feeling the chill this winter because your radiators aren’t heating up properly? Don’t worry, we’ve got a super simple trick to get them back in top form, and it won’t cost you more than 97p!

If you’ve noticed your radiators are warm at the bottom but annoyingly cold at the top, it’s likely there’s trapped air inside. Instead of calling a plumber, here’s a DIY task that’s quick, easy, and pocket-friendly. All you’ll need is a radiator bleed key (or a flat-head screwdriver), an old towel, a cloth, and a container. You can find radiator bleed keys at DIY stores, such as Screwfix, for just 97p!

Here’s how to do it:
1. Turn off your heating and let the radiators cool down.
2. Grab your towel and container and stay ready for any drips.
3. Locate the radiator valve and use your key or screwdriver to turn it anti-clockwise until you hear a hissing sound. This noise means the trapped air is escaping.
4. When the hissing stops and a bit of water comes out, tighten the valve back up. Use the container to catch any leaking water and wipe away excess with the towel.
5. Once you’ve done all your radiators, turn the heating back on and check for warmth. They should be toasty once more, giving you a snug home.
Bleeding your radiators every few months, especially after they’ve been out of use for a while, can keep them efficient and reduce strain on your boiler. So, embrace this nifty trick and enjoy a warm, cosy space without breaking the bank or dialling up the plumber!
