Teenagers in Wales use TikTok for mean-spirited prank on unsuspecting Tesco customer

A shopping trip to Tesco turned into a distressing experience for a woman in Mold when a group of teenagers targeted her in a shocking TikTok prank. While grabbing her groceries, she found herself surrounded by about a dozen teenagers, laughing and joking. One even reached towards her coat pocket, leading her to believe her phone was being stolen. Moments later, a “banking notification” sound played, and the teens ran off laughing.

Concerned and shaken, she confronted the group in the store, only to be met with further mockery. More unsettling was the fact that some teenagers again approached her, playing the same banking sound, and claimed to have “stolen £60” from her.

Calling out this behaviour on Facebook, the shopper stressed the prank’s potentially dangerous fallout, especially for the elderly who might suffer sheer panic or medical emergencies. “This isn’t a joke,” she wrote, urging parents and guardians to talk to their children about the deep impact of such actions.

While Tesco wasn’t informed at the time, they remain committed to ensuring their customers’ safety and urging anyone experiencing similar incidents to report them.

This unsettling trend can be more than mere inconvenience; it’s intimidation that needs more awareness and a communal effort to discourage.

Let’s keep our communities respectful and ensure everyone can shop without fear. Always report any suspicious behaviour to the relevant authorities. Stay safe out there!
