Heartfelt tributes are pouring in as we bid farewell to Roy Erskine, grandfather of tennis legend Andy Murray, who passed away at 94. A cherished figure in both football and tennis circles, Roy was a former footballer for Stirling Albion and Cowdenbeath during the 1950s. His sporting prowess didn’t end there—he was also a talented tennis player, reaching the semi-finals of the Scottish Boys’ Tennis Championships in his youth.
Stirling Albion fondly remembered Roy in a touching statement, recalling his regular visits with daughter Judy, and his joy in celebrating the club’s League 2 championship win in 2022-23. Roy’s love for sports and his community made him a well-loved figure in Dunblane, where he worked as an optician for many years.
