So, what’s changing? 🐶👇

1️⃣ Unlimited Fines: Gone are the days of a mere £1,000 penalty! If your pup decides to stress, chase, or get too close to livestock, you could face an unlimited fine.

2️⃣ Seizing Powers: The police can now seize and detain your dog if it’s suspected of harassing livestock and poses a potential future risk.

3️⃣ Expanded Offences: Even if no contact is made, simply chasing or cornering livestock is now considered an offence. It turns out, stress alone can have serious consequences for animals like sheep, especially pregnant ewes.

4️⃣ Wider Definition: The definition of livestock now includes horses, llamas, alpacas, ostriches, farmed deer, enclosed game birds, and poultry, alongside your usual cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs.

5️⃣ Covering Costs: Offenders may now be required to cover costs of seizing and holding their dog during an investigation, meaning the financial burden is off the police and local authorities.

This legal shift intends to give farmers peace of mind by reducing the £2 million damage caused by worrying incidents annually.

Farming Minister Dame Angela Eagle says, “This law is a massive step forward in protecting our farmers and ensuring animal welfare.”

So remember, keep those leads handy and ensure your dogs don’t wander into potential trouble. It’s all about ensuring their fun doesn’t come at the expense of others’ safety! 🐾🌾
