Swansea City’s manager, Vitor Matos, is buzzing after the Swans clinched a nail-biting 1-0 win over Portsmouth at the Swansea.com Stadium, thanks to Liam Cullen’s cracking late goal. This win marks their second consecutive clean sheet, a “massive” achievement according to Matos. However, the boss has his sights set on more improvements as they look to climb the Championship ladder.
What really lit up Matos’ night was the determination and defensive strength his team showed. “It’s all about building from the back,” he says, emphasising the importance of a solid defence. While winning is great – and this one puts them six points clear of the relegation zone – Matos knows the journey doesn’t stop here. His focus now is on fine-tuning their play with the ball, seeking more fluidity and control in possession.
As Swansea gears up for a busy festive season with a tough match at Stoke City next up, Matos sees player adaptability as crucial. The lads off the bench, including the match-winner Cullen, proved their worth and demonstrated the deep squad strength that Matos believes will be pivotal in the weeks to come. “It’s all about everyone playing their part,” he adds.
This unity and shared mission are what Matos cherishes, stating, “Creating togetherness is massive for our future.” With high hopes and a belief in consistent progress, it looks like Swansea City fans have plenty to cheer about.
