Talk about a near miss! Nick Marden was within a spoonful of glory – and £250 – in the 10,000-calorie Bangers and Mash challenge at Cattleman’s Steakhouse in Paignton, Devon. This eye-watering challenge included tackling 40 sausages, a whopping 5.5lb of mash, and two litres of onion gravy. Nick came so close to beating this feast but left just a spoonful of gravy untouched, leading to a crushing disappointment.

With just 12 minutes left on the clock and his prize in sight, Nick’s attempt was cut short when he felt unwell. The rules state that being sick means a disqualification – spoonful or not! Many on social media crowned Nick as a winner, slamming the restaurant’s decision as “ridiculous” for denying him the cash. But rules are rules, and despite the stellar effort, he didn’t take the prize home.
Restaurant owner Gary King stood firm on the outcome, but he did offer Nick £150 for his effort. This bangers and mash mega-feast has seen around 30 brave souls try, and fail, to finish the challenge in the UK. The only success story was from a professional eater from Canada, who polished it off in just over 23 minutes!

Nick, who calls himself Wayward Feaster on YouTube, wasn’t deterred by the setback. He’s already plotting his comeback to claim the elusive victory that’s been denied to any Brit. “You can’t fail by such a narrow margin and not try again,” he declared, eyeing redemption and his place in the Hall of Feast Fame.
Social media is buzzing with support for Nick, with many urging the steakhouse to reconsider. Comments range from “Give him the win!” to outright disbelief that a spoonful of gravy was the deciding factor. One thing’s for certain – Nick’s got the perfect setup for an epic return!
