Imagine thinking you’re dying, only to find out it was all caused by a common antibiotic! That’s the terrifying experience one mum from Leeds went through. Victoria Abotorabi, 50, was prescribed ciprofloxacin for an ear infection. After just five days, she was waking up with heart palpitations and numb hands. She had no idea the antibiotic could have such severe side effects!

Soon, she was also dealing with a pounding headache, muscle spasms, and even weight loss. In total agony, Victoria feared for her life, writing emotional goodbye letters to her kids as she struggled with pain for five months. Her repeated visits to A&E only resulted in confusion and mounting concerns.

It was only on her seventh hospital visit that medics linked her symptoms to the antibiotic. After spending a whopping £6,000 on private healthcare, she finally understood it was an adverse reaction to the drug. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics, like ciprofloxacin, are known to rarely cause severe and long-lasting side effects.

Victoria wishes she’d known these risks, saying, “I’d have never taken it if I knew.” She’s now on a mission to warn others and hopes that such antibiotics are used as a last resort. “It’s not worth the long-term damage.”
