⚠️ Avalanche Alert for Yr Wyddfa! ⚠️

Winter has beautifully transformed Wales’ tallest mountain, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), but it’s not all picturesque scenes. An avalanche alert is in place due to unstable snow patches, and local mountain rescue teams are urging caution after Storm Goretti brought dangerous conditions! 🚨

Many popular paths, including the Llanberis and Pyg tracks, are buried under snow and “particularly dangerous.” The upper sections are hiding treacherous cornices that could collapse without warning, posing a serious risk of falls or localised avalanches. ❄️
Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team advises everyone to think twice before venturing out. The conditions demand mountain experience, excellent navigation skills, and appropriate winter gear like crampons and ice axes. 🏔️🧗♂️
Volunteer Elfyn Jones warns that paths are nearly “unrecognisable.” He stresses the importance of assessing the conditions before venturing out, ensuring you’re well-prepared for the challenging winter terrain. Remember, even seasoned adventurers must remain flexible and ready to turn back if necessary. ⛷️⚠️
Stay safe out there, and if you plan to visit, be sure to check forecasts and assess your confidence in winter conditions. Let’s enjoy the beauty of our national parks while keeping safety a top priority! 🌨️
