A dramatic case is unfolding at the Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court involving Thomas Mason, 28, who stands accused of a serious crime at the Green Man Festival in Crickhowell, Powys. He has been charged with raping a woman he met while they danced together, allegedly wearing a ‘chicken mask.’

The court heard the woman’s account of their encounter, which began in a music tent and initially involved consensual activities. However, she claims it later escalated into a violent attack inside her tent. Describing the incident, she became tearful, saying Mason slapped and strangled her.

During questioning, the woman admitted to having consumed alcohol and drugs earlier in the night but insisted she clearly communicated when she wanted Mason to stop. She described the ordeal as lasting about 40 minutes, during which she repeatedly told him to stop but felt trapped and unable to call for help.
Mason, who has pleaded not guilty, argues that all interactions were consensual and that he ceased any activity when she expressed discomfort. However, the woman reported Mason’s actions to festival security and medical staff, leading to his arrest after a description and E-fit image helped locate him.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the distressing circumstances and the setting at a popular music festival. As the trial progresses, more details are expected to emerge. Stay tuned for updates as this high-profile case continues to develop.
