Tragedy struck in Blaenavon when a “demonic” act of jealousy led to the death of boxer Duane Keen, 47, at the hands of Kai Pennell, 35. The chilling incident unfolded at the home of Pennell’s ex, Rebecca Phillips, who was left fearing for her life after Pennell ominously told her, “you’re next.”

The chaos began when Mr Keen, a former partner of Ms Phillips, visited her flat to comfort her as Pennell had been harassing her after their breakup. What was meant to be a reassurance turned deadly when Pennell stormed into her flat, armed with a large kitchen knife. Moments later, Mr Keen lay fatally wounded, succumbing to his injuries despite desperate attempts to save him.
Witnesses recount seeing Pennell lurking around before taking a knife from his own flat, apparently planning the attack. Amid the terror, Ms Phillips managed to seek help from a neighbour, but the damage was already done.

In the aftermath, Pennell left a chilling trail, damaging Ms Phillips’ car and fleeing the scene. He phoned Phillips in distress, expressing regret over his actions and suggesting he might harm himself. Police eventually arrested him, and he has since been sentenced to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 23 years.

It’s a stark reminder of the devastating consequences jealousy can have, not only ending one life tragically but also altering others forever. Our thoughts are with the families involved in this heart-wrenching case. Stay safe, everyone.
