Gareth Bale recently shed some light on his attempted takeover of the ‘amazing’ Cardiff City during a chat with Gary Neville on “Stick to Football.” The Welsh football legend revealed his interest in club ownership, admitting that a deal to buy Cardiff last summer fell through. Though the takeover didn’t happen, Bale’s passion for club ownership remains, despite him having no plans to jump into football management.

Reflecting on life after his retirement at just 33 following the 2022 World Cup, Bale seemed excited about exploring new paths. “It’s a long time retired,” he said. “Since my mid-twenties, I’ve been planning it. I want a few years to spend with the kids, then look into new opportunities.” Despite the stresses of owning a club, which Neville knows all too well, Bale hasn’t given up on the idea just yet: “It’s something that still interests me.”

With Cardiff City performing brilliantly under Brian Barry-Murphy and aiming for a swift return to the Championship, fans are naturally enthusiastic. As for Bale, while he has moved away from the idea of managing a team, he’s enjoying the media side of things. “I’m doing a bit of punditry,” he said. “It’s interesting, and while I don’t want to become too critical, I’m enjoying it. I’ve got time to explore what I love beyond golf!”
Even if ownership didn’t pan out this time, the future seems bright for Bale post-football. What are your thoughts on Bale’s potential next steps? Would you like to see him take on Cardiff City? Drop a comment, and let’s chat!
