Heartbreaking scenes have shocked the community as a 32-year-old woman from Ebbw Vale has been banned from keeping animals for a decade. After an investigation, RSPCA inspectors discovered nine neglected ponies in her care, suffering from severe malnourishment, lice infestations, and untreated wounds crawling with maggots.

Lisa Wall of Festival Drive faced Newport Magistrates’ Court for three offences under the Animal Welfare Act. The court heard that between March and April 2025, she utterly failed to provide a safe environment, proper food, or necessary veterinary care for eight ponies. A Shetland pony was found in especially dire condition with gruesome injuries.
Inspector Keith Hogben described finding the ponies in a dismal field, foraging on tree buds due to lack of food. They were surrounded by hazardous materials like metal and broken fences. Adding to the tragedy, a separate assessment by a vet revealed the Shetland pony had exposed bones and maggot-infested wounds, likely dog bites. The pony, with an extremely poor prognosis, sadly had to be euthanised on welfare grounds.

Two other ponies rescued from the site were also put to sleep on veterinary advice, while the remaining six are now in the care of the RSPCA, awaiting rehoming. Despite claiming she wasn’t responsible and that others were supposed to look after the ponies during her hospital stay, Wall was held accountable for the appalling neglect.

This case serves as a strong reminder of the importance of responsible animal care. Every creature deserves love and appropriate attention, and neglect like this can lead to tragic outcomes. Let’s ensure our beloved animals always receive the care they deserve.
