Heartfelt tributes are pouring in for Sister Genevieve, a cherished nun who tragically passed away after being hit by a car in Newport. The 87-year-old, known for her kindness, was a beloved member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Annecy. Despite the best efforts of medics, she succumbed to her injuries after being taken to hospital.

Sister Genevieve had dedicated 67 years of her life to the order and spent many years as the headteacher at St. Winifred’s School in South London. Originally from Chatham, Kent, she later enjoyed a peaceful retirement in Wiltshire and then Newport, where she was actively involved in local community groups. Her fellow sisters and friends remember her for her deep faith, love of life, and genuine interest in everyone she met.
Authorities are investigating the incident that occurred on February 24 on Stow Park Avenue. Gwent Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. Let’s keep Sr. Genevieve and her community in our thoughts during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
