⚠️ Takeaway Trouble in Lampeter! ⚠️

Attention all foodies! Nehar Indian Takeaway in Lampeter has been hit with a hefty fine of nearly £3,000 after some serious food safety slip-ups were uncovered. During a surprise visit by Ceredigion Council’s public protection team, the takeaway had a prawn cocktail that contained mustard – an allergen that was specifically asked to be left out. This could have been life-threatening!

But that’s not all! They were also caught using genetically modified (GM) cooking oil without informing customers, as well as misleading claims about the absence of artificial colours in their food. Bright red colourings were spotted on-site, and lab tests confirmed their use in dishes like chicken tikka masala.

Ruhul Amin Choudhury, the owner, admitted to the lapses and pleaded guilty in court to three offences concerning food safety regulations. As a result, he’s been fined and told to overhaul his allergen management practices to ensure customer safety.
Councillor Matthew Vaux stressed the importance of accurate food information, saying, “Undeclared allergens can have life-threatening consequences. Our team worked closely with the business to ensure urgent corrective action was taken.”
Let this be a reminder for all food businesses to double-check their practices and prioritise customer safety at every step! 🍽️🔍
