Exciting news for Swansea! 🚗💥 Over £12 million is set to be invested in revamping roads, pavements, bridges, and drains across the city for 2026-27. Residents have been vocal about their concerns, and it looks like the council is listening! Led by Cllr Rob Stewart, the cabinet’s approval could even see additional funding. While £9 million is earmarked for road resurfacing and tackling those pesky potholes, the remaining funds are planned for vital infrastructure.

Cllr Andrew Stevens highlights the initiative as being one of the largest recent investments, with more than 30 roads already resurfaced in the past year. However, residents like Aleysha Rees feel the roads still need attention, having had a painful pothole mishap herself. Locals believe a long-term strategy would prove more cost-effective, saving on temporary fixes and heaps of insurance claims. Thomas Coe, a local roofer, notes that the wear and tear from weather and traffic complicate repairs.
Swansea has a massive £78 million road maintenance backlog, with £7 million needed annually to prevent roads from falling further behind. With 200 bridges, countless street lights, and 4,500 retaining walls to consider, the task is colossal. However, there’s optimism that more funds might be coming from the Welsh Government, as suggested by Cllr Stewart, as the council looks at topping up the highways pot with an extra £2 million based on their financial status.

Let’s hope this renewed focus on our roads brings smoother commutes and safer streets for everyone! 🛣️🔧 #SwanseaRoads #CityInvestment #PotholeProblems
