Big changes are happening in Merthyr Tydfil, and it’s all for the better! The council’s decision to bring in Halo Leisure to manage our valued leisure services is being hailed as a game changer. Since Halo took over, we’ve seen brilliant improvements all round. From safeguarding services to tech upgrades and boosting memberships, they’re ticking all the boxes!

Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Centre, Aberfan, and Merthyr Vale Community Centre have all seen exciting changes—fancy new pool blocks, café makeovers, and a 3G pitch, to name a few. Memberships are up by 16%, and usage across facilities is soaring. Plus, Halo’s running some fab community programmes like autism-friendly swimming sessions and a special carers programme that ensures everyone feels included.
Halo’s efforts go beyond just physical upgrades. They’ve tackled legacy issues, improved maintenance, and ensured everything is safe and running smoothly. Did you know water usage is down by over 15% and electricity by 44%? This is thanks to smart updates like pool covers and lighting upgrades. And yes, budgeting has improved too, easing the council’s financial burden.

In response to some issues with antisocial behaviour, a new CCTV system and extra security measures were introduced to keep everyone safe. We’ve also got new initiatives like the Chatty Café scheme and evening events at Canolfan Café, bringing the community together in new and exciting ways.

Councillors are thrilled with these changes. They’ve called the decision “one of the best in years,” and we’re all eager to see what comes next for our thriving leisure services.
