Animal lovers, brace yourselves. A troubling scene unfolded in Pontypool where RSPCA officers discovered seven cats trapped in dire conditions. Hidden in a “stinking” shed, these poor felines were forced to live amidst their own faeces.

The distressing conditions were uncovered when the RSPCA, tipped off by police, investigated photos and videos revealing the squalor. Inside, they found five ‘ragdoll-type’ cats and two black and white companions suffering without proper care.

Danielle Jenkins, the owner of the cats, had been away during the RSPCA visit due to being in prison. She later explained she had arranged for her relatives to tend to the animals. Regardless, these innocent pets endured appalling living conditions.

In court, Jenkins, 34, admitted her neglect under the Animal Welfare Act. As a result, she faced a five-year ban on keeping cats, 50 hours of unpaid work, and a community order including rehabilitation activities. She also needs to pay a £114 victim surcharge and £400 towards court costs.

Notably, one of the female cats required dental surgery for gingivitis and a sore tooth. Fortunately, the others escaped significant health issues, although one had matted fur.

The magistrates were crystal clear: “These were terrible conditions which posed a risk to the health of the cats.” Now in safer hands, the cats have been taken to RSPCA care and are awaiting new, loving homes.

Let’s hope these beautiful creatures find the loving families they deserve and that this serves as a reminder of our duty to care for those who cannot speak for themselves. 🐾❤️
