💔 Heartbreaking numbers from Wales: 154,000 emergency food parcels were distributed last year! That’s a shocking 422 parcels every single day. More than half were for families, though a significant rise in requests has also been seen from older folks. Troublingly, support needs for those 65+ have more than doubled since 2019.

Even though we’ve seen a slight drop in overall parcel numbers following a reduction in inflation, the need is still overwhelming. Incomes aren’t keeping up with rising costs. Debbie from Rhyl says she’s felt “left behind,” needing food aid while waiting for her benefits to be reassessed. The struggle is real for families, with more than half of all parcels going to households with kids, despite them being only 40% of the population.

The grassroots heroes at places like Rhymney Valley Foodbank witness struggles daily, offering not just food, but hope. Sadly, despite people’s generosity, demand is outpacing donations. We need systemic change, not just band-aid solutions.
The upcoming elections bring an urgent call for the government to ensure basic needs are met for everyone: fair incomes, affordable homes, and access to crisis support. Let’s aim for a future where food banks are redundant because no one should struggle to feed their family. If you can, please donate. Every tin and coin makes a difference. 🌍❤️ #EndFoodPoverty #SupportLocal
