Exciting news for parents and childcare providers in Wales! Starting April 6th, the Childcare Offer payment is set to rise by 4.18%! This means providers will now receive £6.67 per hour for caring for three and four-year-olds, up from £6.40. Plus, meal charge limits will also rise by 4.18%, aiming to balance affordability for both providers and parents.

Big shoutout to the Welsh Government for making this change to keep up with the real pressures on the childcare sector, including adjustments for the National Living Wage and other rising costs. This annual review approach ensures funding decisions stay transparent and responsive.

Minister Dawn Bowden is spearheading this initiative to help the sector manage financial impacts and encourage its growth. Did you know that Wales offers some of the most generous rates in the UK? Meanwhile, England’s rate stands at £5.67/hour per child.
In terms of benefits, two-year-olds in Wales attending a Flying Start area receive 12.5 hours of childcare per week for 39 weeks, while three and four-year-olds get 30 hours of free childcare if their parents are eligible.
The government remains committed to working with childcare providers and stakeholders to explore long-term solutions that will support the sector’s sustainability and growth.
Spread the word and let’s celebrate this positive step for childcare in Wales! 🎉
